Nearby, Koma's mechanical limbs deploy with a sharp hiss of pneumatic servos, scooping up both the chameleon and Kenneth in a frantic effort to bolt, but the sheer press of the encircling vermin cuts off the exit. In that tangled second, the first bloated rat lunges across the grain heap, its yellowed incisors sinking with brutal force into Buddha.
